Previews: Past and Present
Trailers, Commercials, Promos. The marketing concepts behind every product out there - and videogames, and Resident Evil of course, are no different.

Capcom has released a number of video trailers and commercials over the years and so we've decided to give you info about ones already on the site as well as add a whole bunch of new ones for you to watch as well.

We hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane.

- Rombie & Roody

Resident Evil Zero (2000) / United States

This was a promo reel for the game on the N64 that appeared in both Capcom and Nintendo's booths back at the E3 in May of 2000. It's interesting to see how the game has progressed from the pre-rendered blocky state to how we finally saw it on the GameCube.

Biohazard Code Veronica Complete (2000/2001) / Japan
Resident Evil Code Veronica X (2001) / United States

The first trailer of the two released was over 3 minutes long and outlined both scenes from Code Veronica to make you connect to the game, but also added in heaps of stuff we'd never seen to make us interested in Code Veronica all over again.

First shown in November of 2000 (along side the first video of Devil May Cry) it left us with a lot of questions which wouldn't be answered for some time. The second trailer is basically just a 55 second edition of the longer version.

Aside from the two trailers, there are two commercials. The first depicting nothing more than an empty hallway typical of those seen in the series. However if you wait long enough something will happen on the left of the screen. An interesting commercial that in someways epitomizes the series style to that point in all of 30 seconds.

The second commercial, which we've grabbed from GameSpot originally, was a brief 20 second commercial for the games release in the US in August of 2001.

Biohazard (2002) / Japan
Resident Evil (2002) / United States
Resident Evil (2002) / France

Some quick spots shown at trade shows and on TV are what you'll find here. They're made of bits of the same footage which many of us were hungrily downloading every weekend from Capcom Japan's own official site for the game.

If you've been a visitor of ResidentEvilFan.com for a while, then you'll likely know and love the commercial for the United States release of Resident Evil, as it was for a long time our #1 watched video. This trailer appeared on TV, but most interestingly also appeared on a lot of VHS videos during their trailers - it's highly likely to appear more on Sony Pictures films and may have had something to do with their connection to the Resident Evil movie. And no, to all the people who've asked, we still don't know anything about the music used in it.

As for the French commercial, well there is bit of background on this commercial which shows a parent so scared he had to wake his kid up because of his nightmares of playing Resident Evil. The whole campaign (which I consider one of the worst in videogame history apart from the "Life Without Resident Evil" one done for Code Veronica X) had to revolve around the concept of "Even Adults Get Scared Too" (the website is still online at http://www.adultsgetscaredtoo.com ).

Sadly the TV commercial (there was one in most European languages) was probably one of the better parts of it all, as the print campaigns and that horrible website just doesn't do the series justice.

Biohazard Zero (2002) / Japan
Resident Evil Zero (2002) / United States
Resident Evil Zero (2003) / France

A series of trailers and commercials for Zero, ranging from a great lengthy one minute Japanese promo video, two stylish commercials, also from Japan, two game promos from Capcom USA used mostly for instore marketing, and another commercial from France.

Again this was a part of a European wide campaign which asked the question that if you knew this baby was going to grow up to cause all manor of death and destruction by creating a deadly virus, what would you do?

Biohazard Outbreak (2003) / Japan
Resident Evil Outbreak (2004) / United States

Our final two promotional videos are of course for Outbreak, the current latest in the series. For the first video I must thank BiohazardFrance.com and Hunk from 'Le Collectionneur' for providing the original download.

Basically it's a lengthy promo, running nearly three minutes, used in promotion of the game in Japan at the end of last year.

The final video is of course the US trailer for the game coming out on the 30 of March - "Evil Spreads Online 03/30/04" goes the tagline.
