Previews: Past and Present |
Trailers, Commercials, Promos.
The marketing concepts behind every product out there - and videogames,
and Resident Evil of course, are no different.
Capcom has released a number of video trailers and commercials over
the years and so we've decided to give you info about ones already
on the site as well as add a whole bunch of new ones for you to
watch as well.
We hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane.

Resident Evil
(1996) / England
I must firstly thank SurvivHor.com
for this video.
This is a PAL trailer released by Virgin Interactive back in 1996,
and is one of the funniest videos around, partly through it's music
and partly through it's visuals.
While the trailer itself was created before the censorship changes
to the English language version, and shows scenes like Chris smoking,
the later gory scenes are covered by a large "CENSORED" banner.
This was shown around on PlayStation demo discs that came with the
official UK PS magazine, this specific video was on a horror special
issue that came out years after the game did, so there is no idea
if the video appeared like this back in the mid 90's.

Resident
Evil 1.5 (as Resident Evil 2 - 1997) / United States
This was one of the only lengthy
videos to see the US public (although some other clips saw TV
screens) back in 1997.
This video appeared on the PlayStation Underground discs that
you could get direct from Sony and gives a quick glimpse into
the Resident Evil title never released. It found it's way onto
the web through a few people ripping the .str video file directly
off the Underground disc and placing it online and first saw it's
way online as a video at Biohazard Extreme back in 2001.
Should you want to learn more about Resident Evil/Biohazard 1.5
then I'd suggest browsing Bioflames.com
for lots more info, pics and clips.

Biohazard
2 (1997/1998) / Japan
George A. Romero's Biohazard
2 Commercials filmed back in September of 1997. They kinda had a
notority of their own, even if you hadn't seen them, just because...
well it's a combination of Resident Evil and Night of the Living
Dead, and it gives and idea of what direction the Resident Evil
movie might have gone if Romero stayed on board. The two commercials
have been here on REFANB for a while, but we've added a new version
of Romero's main commercial.
It's interesting to note that
the main commercial would have actually been shown in the United
States if it hadn't been for "Actor X" who played Leon
in the commercial.
"Actor X" is actually Brad Renfro (The Client, Apt Pupil).
Ironically it was his "reputation" at stake for not appearing
in this sort of thing overseas according to his agent - publications
outside of Japan weren't even allowed to use his name. Renfro has
since become known for his string of arrests for drugs, drunk driving,
and other crimes.
For those who are interested, and I know you all are, Claire is
played by Adrienne Frantz (The Bold and the Beautiful).

Resident
Evil Directors Cut Dual Shock &
Resident Evil 2 Dual Shock (1998?) / United States
Biohazard Directors Cut Dual Shock &
Biohazard 2 Dual Shock (1999) / Japan
The two US commercials were some of the
earliest Resident Evil ones to hit the web as far as I can remember,
thanks to IGN. They're fairly funny and sell the point. If you
were watching TV back around this time then you might actually
remember them.
The Japanese one is about as funny, even though not many people
can understand whats going on - the board meeting with the random
shot of zombies apparently supposed to be having fun is an odd
commercial for the new low price.
