Resident Evil Degeneration Trailer Posted on 7/27/2008 by Rombie
That's right, that's Claire Redfield in CG form, appearing in the CG RE movie, Degeneration. IGN has posted a direct feed version of the latest trailer of the movie on it's site. It and more info on the display at the San Diego Comic Con event can be found at the following location:
Resident Evil 5 Explosion #2 (Updated) Posted on 7/16/2008 by Rombie
Oh noes, we crashed the interwebs!
I went to go post some news on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning here... only to find the stampede of access seemed to have taken us offline for some time. It's only now I see we've returned.
I thought I could get this done by the weekend, but there is just so much stuff out there, it's taken me a while to compile this list.
Firstly... and most importantly... Capcom has set basically, more or less, a worldwide release date. This has set the release in Japan as Thursday March 12th, 2009 and the release date in the US and Europe as Friday March 13th, 2009.
Capcom also allowed all press to cover the playable media during the event with little restrictions, and thus this list is long... anyway, enjoy.
Other News
During the event as well additional news broke, releated to both the Wii edition of Zero and the CG movie.
Firstly, somehow the no-so-upgraded Wii port managed to make it's way into the Japanese Top Ten sales for it's release week according to Games Industry. Fairly surprising given the background of this now almost six year old game.
Secondly a US edition of the website and blog for the CG Resident Evil movie, Degeneration, has opened. The most interesting thing of note, aside from the weird blog entries, is the note regarding the upcoming Comic-Con events, including a new trailer - which should hopefully make it's way online not long after.
Resident Evil 5 Explosion Posted on 6/4/2008 by Rombie
Unfortunately I've been a couple of days late to the party, but RE5 news has exploded across the net from Capcom's Captivate event. Footage hit the web over the weekend thanks to GameTrailers and since then the embargo has lifted providing countless screens, video interviews, and new official sites.
The official site is interesting, aside from providing videos and the usual images, for some unknown reasons Capcom has added wallpapers which have development notes all over them. They've indicated this is intentional, but it does also potentially reveal the new female characters name as well as the existence of another character.
Here's a quick run down on how to get all of the info out there:
A number of these are worth checking out, especially the trailer of course and the pop up trivia edition as well at GameTrailers. The two video interviews are worth watching too... GameTrailer's is better produced and better overall questions are asked, however the GameSpot edition probes a little into the links between this and previous titles in the series and you get some interesting answers.
Additionally while preview wise all the content is descriptions of the same playable displayed to the press, it's worth reading Kotaku's discussions with producer Jun Takeuchi about the critical comments about racism portrayed in the earlier trailer and their impact as well.
Most importantly Takeuchi has also stressed in most of the interviews that new stuff will be coming to E3 (in just over a month), including a surprising new addition which they haven't yet discussed, and a further character which apparently will surprise people.
Finally, if this isn't enough or you can't be bothered scouring all the sites for all the details, our friends at The Horror Is Alive have posted a general summary of all the important details on their news page from all the sites giving an overall view of this event. Cheers to DotCal for doing this so I might cheekily link to it.
Translated RE5 Footage Posted on 4/11/2008 by Rombie
One of the blogs over at Capcom has posted the Biohazard 5 update video from below, with English subtitles. You're able to see the video at this link.
More information on the title should arrive late May/early June as Capcom gears up for it's Gamer's Day replacement, CAP-TIVATE.
RE5 Footage and THIA Controversy Posted on 3/27/2008 by Rombie
Yes, a bit slow to the punch on this one. Thanks to everyone who e-mailed in. The Famitsu footage of has appeared a few days early thanks to Gamevideos.com, and while it had recently been spoiled that Capcom wasn't showing new footage... they actually did, kind of. Instead of new direct screen stuff, we were shown some development work and someone playing on a debug unit. Still better than nothing. The interview itself, while in Japanese, discusses more about the use of light and shade in the game.
Secondly, our friends at THIA are causing some interesting discussions both at their forums and around the internet in relation to potential ports of RE4 to XBox360 and PS3. Capcom has been noting on their forums that there are factual issues that stop it from being true, but current webmaster Dot50Cal is still stating there is footage yet to come. Check out the box shots and upcoming footage and judge for yourself by visiting http://www.the-horror.com.
Happy 12 and 25th Anniversary! Posted on 3/22/2008 by Rombie
Not much to say, just a celebration of Resident Evil's 12th Anniversary today, plus the upcoming 25th for Capcom! Hurrah!
New RE5 Details Coming Posted on 3/20/2008 by Rombie
Rumors had begun circulating earlier this week that new details on the next Resident Evil title were expected, with Famitsu then stating they were planning another Capcom special DVD with footage of another Monster Hunter sequel and, more importantly for us, Biohazard 5. Speculation was rife that the footage is not likely to be new or much, however I believe that we should be expecting plenty more details in the coming weeks.
Edit - I've had it made obvious to me the link in question was from the 07 Day. Thank you.
Basically in the end keep an eye on this space, new details are coming...
Umbrella Chronicles Ships Over A Million Posted on 3/4/2008 by Rombie
Yes, that old joke again... Capcom has just announced that they have shipped over one million copies of Umbrella Chronicles for Wii.
Combined with the over 1 million copies of RE4 on the Wii sold as well, it's likely we will see other titles beyond the recently announced Japan-only Zero port in the future.
Biohazard Zero To Wii Posted on 2/27/2008 by Rombie
As you may have heard, Capcom announced (via Famitsu) that they are porting Zero to the Wii with Wii-mote based controls. Considering the style, rumor has it that it maybe more point and click or very different than the normal RE style as well.
Capcom US has announced that the title will only be released in Japan as well, as they have no intentions on releasing it overseas.
Capcom Sales Data Posted on 2/24/2008 by Rombie
While I was away, Capcom updated it's IR information to include the latest stats for it's million sellers.
The Resident Evil/Biohazard series in total has sold 34.5 million copies (making it the 19th most sold series in the world), and still Capcom's biggest selling series to date.
Resident Evil 2 remains as the most sold title in the series, and Capcom's 2nd biggest seller ever, with almost 5 million copies sold of the original PS1 edition. Resident Evil 4 has put in an impressive showing with the PS2 version selling 2 million units, the GC edition at 1.6 million, and the Wii version at 1.15 million.
While not yet on the list Capcom also recently announced that Umbrella Chronicles has sold around 950,000 units which gives it a good chance to appear on future updates.
