Login Issues
Why cant I login?
Are your username and password correct? Double-check that the information you are entering is correct. If you are still not able to login refer to "I've lost my password, how do I retrieve it?" section below.

Another reason could be that you are trying to login from a different computer than you logged in with before. If this is the case you will need to re-activate your account. Click on the re-activate account link at the bottom of the login screen. Enter the required information and you will receive an email to the address you have in your profile. Follow the instructions in the email to re-activate your account.

I've lost my password, how do I retrieve it?
To retrieve your password, simply click on the Forget Password? link. Once there, enter your username and click on the "Send Password" button. You will receive an email with your password enclosed. Please note that we can only send passwords to the email address listed in your profile.
Why cant I see the forums without logging in?
You must be a registered member to view or use any of the features on these forums.
I can't find the link to re-activate my account, where is it?
If for some reason the link to request reactivation for your account is not showing up in the top right corner, you can find it by clicking here.
Forum Rules and Restrictions
What are your rules regarding porn?
Any pornographic imagery or links to such content will not be tolerated. This is not negotiable.
Is profanity allowed?
This is a mature forum, thus profanity is allowed. However, don't over-do it. Profanity laced tirades towards other members can be considered flaming and can result in having your account banned.
Spamming
Spamming is characterized by the initiation of threads or posts that contribute nothing to a forum, be it off topic or on topic. Examples include: empty bodies, bodies with few words that have no relation to the current thread or discussion and those posts that state they are spam, either to annoy or increase a member's post count. This determination is made by the forum Moderator or Administrator and is not up for discussion.

Spamming also includes creating a topic to advertise yours or another's website or forum. Doing so is prohibited here. However, you may post links to your website or forums in your signature.

Failure to comply with these rules can result in deactivation of your account.

Trolling
Definition of a troll:

An individual who chronically trolls in sense 1; regularly posts specious arguments, flames or personal attacks to a newsgroup, discussion list, or in email for no other purpose than to annoy someone or disrupt a discussion. Trolls are recognizable by the fact that they have no real interest in learning about the topic at hand - they simply want to utter flame bait. Like the ugly creatures they are named after, they exhibit no redeeming characteristics, and as such, they are recognized as a lower form of life on the net, as in, "Oh, ignore him, he's just a troll."

In simple terms, trolls are people who post messages to get attention, to disrupt newsgroups, and simply to make trouble. Trolling will not be tolerated here. This determination is made by the forum Moderator or Administrator and is not up for discussion.

Excessive trolling can result in your account being de-activated.

Flaming
Definition of flaming:

As a term applied to electronic discussions, it refers to a situation where people say something in the electronic situation they probably wouldn't say in a face to face situation. More specifically, most people would further define this situation ONLY if it applies to negative utterances: gay-bashing, cursing, cutting remarks. This kind of flaming usually destroys/degrades the conversation.

Excessive flaming will not be tolerated and can result in your account being de-activated.

How many accounts am I allowed to have?
Only ONE forum account is allowed per person. If you are found to have more than one account, the extra account will be banned and you will be warned. Repeat violations will result in all your accounts as well as your IP address banned.
Forum Specific Questions
How do I become a moderator?
Moderators are chosen by the administrators and are only recruited when they see fit. They are based on many requirements. A long tenure in the forums, maturity, respectable posting and the ability to think clearly even when things get tough are all desirable traits. No amount of nominating or volunteering will influence the admin's decision. They will contact people they think fit the bill when, and if, more Moderators are needed.
What is that little picture next to everyone's name? How do I get one?
That is called an avatar. You can choose your own by clicking on the "My Profile" link at the top of the page and scrolling down the page to where it says "Your Avatar". From there, select the one you would like and make sure to click "Amend My Profile". You can only use the avatars already loaded in the system but if you desire a different one the mods are usually more than willing to add one here or there. Your avatar must meet the follwing specifications in order to be posted (NO exceptions):
  1. Avatar must be in JPEG or GIF format
  2. Must be exactly 50 pixels wide by 50 pixels in height
  3. Must be no larger than 30 kilobytes
  4. No porn or profanity allowed
  5. Can be animated
Are there any size limitations on posted images?
Use your judgement. Does the image you posted stretch the forum pages too wide? Does the image you've posted take a long time to load? How many images are you posting in one post?

As far as sig images go, please post no more than one image per signature. For wide signature images, please make them no more than 400 pixels wide by 150 high. For tall signature images, please restrict them to no more than 150 wide, by 300 tall. Also, please refrain from posting large animated gif files, since they contain many frames they can take a long time to load.

It's just common courtesy to others on the forums to follow these rules, because not everyone has broadband. If you abuse the rules too much, you will be warned. Refusal to change your images to a more appropriate size can result in your account being banned.

How do I change the "forum rookie" member title?
When you initially sign for an account, your member title is "Forum Rookie". This will remain un-editable for the first 30 days of your membership. After 30 days you will be able to change it to whatever you like.
Why can't I get into the Legends Forum?
The Legends Forum is restricted to members who have had at least 1 year (365 days) of forum membership or more. Once you have been here for that amount of time, you will automatically gain access. The intention of the Legends Forum is to provide a place where only vets can go to discuss topics. While the general rules of the forums still apply to this forum, the Legends Forum can be used for dicier topics such as politics, religion, console talk, and music.
What are your restrictions on making polls?
Only veteran members will have access to the poll features in the forums. Veteran are members who have had at least 90 days of forum membership.

Abuse of the poll system will not be tolerated. Using the poll system to troll or flame is prohibited. An example would be creating a poll asking the question "Which member do you hate the most?". Inappropriate polls will immediately be locked and repeat violations will result in your account being banned.

This determination is made by the forum Moderator or Administrator and is not up for discussion.

I keep getting an error message when I try and load a page. What do I do?
Your best bet when this occurs is to copy the entire text of the error page you are directed to and e-mail the info to forums@residentevilfan.com. Chances are the administrator will be able to fix the problem or at least tell you what you are doing wrong. It is always helpful to re-itterate what page/thread you were trying to visit and include as much of the error info as possible.
Does RE Fan have a chat room?
While there is not currently an onsite chat room we do all like to hang out in one of two mIRC chat rooms designed just for RE Fan members. First download an mIRC client such as mIRC, Trillian or Perch. Then choose from the following two servers:

Dalnet: Random U.S. Dalnet server, chat room #residentevilfan
Quakenet: Random U.S. Quakenet server, chat room #residentevilfan
